JK’s post is another commentary on the continuing political controversy over the Korean government’s policy to “revitalize” the four major rivers that run through South Korea.
The debate continues whether the Four Rivers Restoration Project will save or kill the four rivers, and Jiyul Sunim, the renown Buddhist environmentalist, took photos of the Nakdong River to preserve it at least in the image format.
The photos below were introduced via the blog of Apsangokji who’s been to the Nakdong River to produce field reports on the Four Rivers Restoration Project. Jiyul Sunim has also visited the Nakdong River numerous times even before the Four Rivers Project began, and now she writes about her visits.

According to “Why Jiyul Sunim opposed the Against the Four Rivers Project poster” by the World through the Locals of Kim Joo-Whan and Kim Hwon-Joo, she took photos of the construction work currently underway at the Nakdong River in order to keep records of the River as it is and also to tell the world about what is going on there.
At a talk she gave in Daegu earlier in April, she also said something along the same line. We should not simply get angry and oppose the Four Rivers Project in reaction to what you see in the press; but she wishes that people would feel and know about the forgotten river. She strongly encouraged people to visit the River now.

Jiyul Sunim said the best thing to do is to record and uncover the truth, rather than harbor anger. There’s no better way than to see the River with your own eyes and feel it to find out if it’s true or not.
