Trending in Seoul: Bright Blazers

Bright blazers and boots, along with every other kind of coordination, are the biggest things among the pure Korean trendy, linking up also with the vintage trend as well, on top of the recent (real, not fake) Doc Marten and other big, stompin’ boots trend. Interesting stuff.

Seoul Fashion Week Revisited

Our regular column at TINNews.com has come out, with the trusty translation of Dayoung, who always makes me sound better in Korean. I’ll include the original English below the Korean excerpt.

Inside Korean College Life: 10 Survival Tips Pt. 1

By Elena J. (with insights from Angel R.)

Similar to the majority of 600,000 students that took the Korean College Entrance Exams last year, I held an image of college life that was a crude botch of images glued together by the media and tales from incumbent college students. College was a place where one could party, drink all night, throw up, and still look as glamorous as Jun Ji-Hyun did in “My Sassy Girl.” Girls would finally be able to wear heels, makeup, and get a perm, whereas guys would be able to dye their hair and drink to their heart’s content—indulgences prohibited for them until now. College also seemed like a place of absolution—once they had the acceptance letter in front of their eyes, most parents would relent to anything. ANYTHING—from fancy European tours to an expensive new wardrobe, because for Korean parents, having kids in college (and a “good” one in the capital city) contributes greatly to family honor, elevates the child’s social status later in life, and never fails to arouse envy among the ajummas at the local jjimjilbang.

University Fashion Week 2010: Sangmyung University

These are a few shots from the Sangmyung University Fashion Show, but if you want to see all the show pictures, you should go to our Sangmyung University photo set at Flickr. You can also see the set as a really cool slideshow by clicking here. All images below are non-Photoshopped and raw from the card. Because of the high volume of pictures to process, it is impossible to spend time adjusting individual shots. You can make minor cropping and color adjustments on your own after grabbing the original in high resolution from Flickr.

Korean Street Fashion – Warm Weekend in Myeongdong I

The “Korean Street Fashion” column takes a look at the broad variety of actual fashions on the Korean street, from the most quirky and colorful of looks to those that are typical and everyday. We take an anthropological approach to the real looks we see on the street and try to record Korean fashion in all its diversity, and not just in terms of our own ideas of what it “should” be.

IMG_0656 copy

We started the afternoon last Saturday in Myeongdong, with my photo class, testing out street portrait shots with multiple flashes. We were actually just entering Myeongdong and hadn’t even set up when we saw this really unique and colorful woman sporting a pink heart purse and heart high heels — could we not stop and shoot?
